Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The single blends a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
